My Entertainment Weekend Update

Hello friends, and happy weekend!

I’ve been continuing my Black Spire read, and I’m about halfway done. I’m waiting for my copy of Shadow of the Sith from Amazon, but it looks like I won’t get it until early next week. I’m eager to read it, but at least now I have some time to finish Black Spire before I start that one.

On Kindle, I’m re-reading Claudia Gray’s Bloodline. One, because it’s one of my favorite canon novels, and two, because I just want more Leia right now. Feeling the post- Obi-Wan Kenobi blues, lol. At the end of July, Padawan by Kiersten White will release, and so I’ll get some more Obi-Wan goodness.

That’s really it for Star Wars right now.

Who is this movie really about, anyway?

I had been planning on re-watching Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, but honestly, I’m just not feeling it right now. It was a fun, enjoyable movie–but I don’t love it the way I love his origin story. Which makes me sad, because Dr. Strange is one of my favorite Marvel characters. I guess I just feel like it was more about Wanda/The Scarlet Witch than Dr. Strange. I find Wanda an interesting character, but this was supposed to be about Steven Strange, and she ended up kind of stealing the show. And that makes me kind of grumpy, lol. Anyway, I’ll rewatch it one of these days, and then we’ll see how I feel.

Another show I’ve been thinking about is Stranger Things Season 4. I really got into the first three seasons, but again, I’m just not feeling it right now. Not enough to subscribe to Netflix for a month in order to watch it. Maybe it was gone for too long and it fell off my radar. Maybe I just need to watch the first episode to get back into it. I don’t know; all I want to do is rewatch Obi-Wan Kenobi, lol.

Not much else this week. Kind of boring. To make it a bit more interesting, here’s a few fan art pieces I found and adore:

Leia and Lola by Christine Chang.
Another wonderful piece by the talented Uzuri Art. Obi-Wan and his memories of the people he loved.

My Entertainment (Post)Weekend Update

Hello friends, and hope you had a happy weekend!

I think this was the first time I totally forgot to write an update post for the weekend, lol. Which is okay, since it gave me time to finally go see Dr. Strange, which I’ll get to momentarily.

First, books. I’ve been reading Brotherhood by Mike Chen, about Obi-Wan and Anakin just after the start of the Clone Wars. It’s really quite good, with alternating chapters from Obi-Wan’s and Anakin’s points of view, as well as a couple of other characters. Obi-Wan is investigating a bombing on Cato Neimoidia, while Anakin is on a supply mission with some younglings. Obi-Wan meets Asajj Ventress for the first time, as she is sent to investigate the bombing on the Separatist’s behalf, and I have a feeling things aren’t going to go well. Anakin must help a youngling (called Initiates in this book, a term I’ve never heard before) deal with her reluctance to connect with the Force, as it brings up feelings of dread and pain caused by the war. And we’ll finally find out what that “business” on Cato Neimoidia actually was!

Name this band.

It’s hard to believe, but the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will be airing in a few short (or maybe long?) days! I feel like I’ve been waiting for this show forever, lol.

In the hype leading up to it, I’ve been enjoying the photos and the article in the latest Vanity Fair magazine (online, I haven’t bought it yet, but I hope to soon). The article was full of juicy tidbits about the various projects in the works. I’m hoping for some more Andor hype in the coming months, since it’s supposedly coming out in August, I believe, and we haven’t seen much at all. Mando S3 is slated for late 2022/early 2023, while Ahsoka will drop sometime in 2023. Good things coming in the Star Wars world!

And in Marvel, I’ve finally seen Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, and it was as wild and crazy as I thought it would be. But also super fun. I love how it brings together some other Marvel franchises, like X-Men and The Fantastic Four, and probably some other ones I’m unaware of. That’s the beauty of the Multiverse–you can do anything, lol. SPOILER ALERT, but Wanda turns out to be the villain here as the Scarlet Witch (not sure why I was surprised at this), and while she went WAY overboard, I did still feel kind of sorry for her. As a mom, I understand the desperation and the lengths you’d go to in order to be with your kids, but damn. Also, the Dark Hold had, well, a dark hold over her. America Chavez seems to be an important addition to the Multiverse going forward, and it will be interesting to see what role she’ll play. Dr. Strange himself remains my favorite character in Marvel (besides Loki), and he didn’t disappoint here. Strengths were tested, lessons were learned. And eyeballs were added to, lol. Anyway, I still prefer the origin story over this one, but a solid enjoyable movie.

I think that’s it. What’s been entertaining you? Let me know in the comments and we’ll talk about it!

My Entertainment Weekend Update

Hello my friends, and happy weekend!

I’ve finished Midnight Horizon, the latest High Republic YA novel by Daniel Jose Older, and although it didn’t wow me at first, it did get better and ended up being quite good. I’ll probably do a review of the book for next week’s High Republic Wednesday’s post, so stay tuned.

I’m now reading Mission to Disaster, the middle-grade novel by Justina Ireland in this third High Republic wave, and the end of Phase One. I’ve generally liked the middle-grade novels, and Ireland is particularly good at them; it also centers around Vernestra Rwoh, one of my favorite High Republic Padawans. I literally just started it, but I’m looking forward to getting into it.

Vernestra and Imri battling some gnarly looking space crocs.

In other Star Wars book news, it seems I have another to add to my pre-order list, lol. On August 16th of this year a book called The Princess and the Scoundrel will be released. It’s a book about Han and Leia’s wedding, if you can believe it. It’s by Beth Revis, who wrote the excellent YA novel Rebel Rising, about Jyn Erso, so I’m hoping good things come of it. At first, I thought, Um, really? but it actually sounds like it could be kind of neat. It will tell of their wedding on Endor, and then of their honeymoon on the Halcyon cruise ship. But while on board, they get involved in some kind of adventure, as it’s clear the Imperials are still around. Could be fun.

In other extremely exciting Star Wars news, there are reports that Jimmy Smits will be making an appearance in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show. This comes with other rumored plot leaks that I won’t mention (so be careful online if you want to go into the show without spoilers), but I will say I’m so happy to know that my original favorite space dad, Bail Organa, will be showing up!

In Marvel, I watched Assembled: Eternals. I really like these Assembled episodes, which show the making of these wonderful shows and movies. And since I absolutely loved Eternals, this one was pretty special. I don’t think Eternals went over well with a lot of long-time Marvel fans, and I think it’s because it’s so different than what they’re used to seeing. But as a new Marvel fan (just in the past year), I’m not so entrenched in “what Marvel should look like.” So I think I’m more open to new things. That’s my theory anyway, lol.

In more Marvel news, the Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer dropped recently, and it was insane. I have no idea what the hell is going on here, lol, but it looks awesome! I can’t wait!

Speaking of trailers, there’s more: Moon Knight had a teaser trailer during the Super Bowl, and it looks just as crazy and incomprehensible. But cool, too.

This has been a week for trailers, as there was also one for The Rings of Power series that will premiere on Amazon Prime in September. I don’t know much about this series, but it’s something I’d love to watch. I probably won’t get Amazon Prime, though, so I’ll have to wait until it’s available in some other form.

That’s about it–mostly upcoming shows and books that I can’t wait for!
