I’m a little late with this, as the 40th anniversary of the release of The Return of the Jedi was last week on May 25th, but I thought I’d celebrate that iconic film with some fan art. Enjoy!
I love this art nouveau style poster for the film.

Leia releases Han from carbonite in Jabba’s palace.

Luke constructing his green lightsaber on Tatooine before rescuing Han from Jabba.

A great scene of Luke on Endor with Rex, er, I mean Nik Sant, lol.

A charming portrait of Leia with Wicket on Endor.

Han on Endor with stormtroopers and an AT-ST.

Luke holding his dying father.

What do you think of these images? What’s your favorite part of Return of the Jedi? Let me know in the comments and we’ll talk about it!
I love Return of the Jedi! Of the three original films, this was the only one I saw in theaters on Opening Day (May 25, 1983). It was also the last movie I reviewed as Entertainment Editor for my high school newspaper.
I’d missed the wide release opening day for Star Wars in 1977, partly because it didn’t get screened in Miami till a week after May 25, 1977, but mostly because I was – ironically – a Star Wars-skeptic and remained one till September! And as much as I wanted to see Empire on its Opening Day (May 19, 1980), I had to wait till Mom was good and ready to go with me in mid-June.
(School was still, obviously, in session on that Wednesday 40 years ago, so I couldn’t just go to Dadeland Triple Theater earlier than the 2:30 dismissal bell. I also don’t drive, and I wasn’t bus savvy then, but I WAS able to get one of my car-owning friends to give my friend Richard – he was in a wheelchair – and me a lift to the theater after school was out for the day. Thank the Force for that, right?)
I know that many Star Wars fans consider Jedi to be somewhat inferior to either A New Hope (it’s Star Wars to me, but George gave it that subtitle, so I’ll use it, too!) or The Empire Strikes Back. That’s NOT my opinion; I think there are bits that could have been better if The Maker hadn’t been in the midst of a divorce and a bit weary with his creation, but otherwise…it’s fine.
Nice art, by the way, Tina!

Thanks, Alex, I thought they were cool. (They’re certainly not mine, lol). I was too young at the time to see A New Hope, but I did see both Empire and Jedi in the theaters when they came out (probably not opening day, though!) Those are great memories. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Hi Tina, loving these Fir Tyeth….sorry FORTIETH anniversary images for ROTJ! I too really like Cryssy Cheung’s art nouveau poster, it’s fitting for the nostalgic feels about the film. That image of Luke constructing his saber is just how I come up with my sabers 😎
On a serious note if you are searching for more cool artworks may I recommend a friend I met on a Discord community, he is called Elscer. He is a graphic freelance artist and has done some neat “re-worked” movie posters for SW films and animations. You can check out some of his work on Pinterest with this link: https://www.pinterest.fr/Elscer/
Hope you find some pictures you like (Elscer also has other portfolios online if you do a Google search for “Elscer Graphiste”. in case you want to see more).
